NordLink, owned 50 percent by Statnett and 50 percent by TenneT and KfW, will connect the Norwegian and German energy system through a 1400 MW subsea cable.
The partners on the German side have agreed with regional authorities in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein on a speedy progress of the planning approval process for converter station and route for land cable and subsea cable within a 12-mile limit from the coast of Germany.
"This is good news for the project. This clarification is an important step in moving towards enabling us to make an investment decision for the project in 2014" says Executive Vice President in Statnett, Håkon Borgen.
The schedule that both parties commit to implies that the consultation process with landowners and public agencies take place in February, and that an approval decision can be made within 30 June 2014.
On the Norwegian side the application of the necessary licenses is currently being considered by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. NordLink has also started the procurement process for production and installation of 570 kilometer cable and converter stations in both countries.
