There are plans to electrify Equinor's plant at Melkøya that will trigger a need for a new pipeline. Equinor has not yet decided on this, but electrification will require a 420 kV power line all the way to Hammerfest. Should Equinor choose to phase out plans for electrification, a new power line at 420 kV voltage level will also be shelved.
