Upgrade to 420 kV between Aurland and Sogndal
Statnett is currently upgrading the 300 kV transmission power line between Aurland and Sogndal to 420 kV and towards Bergen area. New powerlines need to be constructed close to the current powerlines. Smaller adjustments in Sogndal substation and a total reconstruction of Aurland 1 substation is necessary. The project is currently ongoing in areas of Sogndal, Kaupanger, Frønningen, Bleia-Storbotnen, Aurlandsfjellet and Vassbygdi. In areas towards west to Vik municipality the work will start 2024/2025. Spans over Sogndalsfjorden and over Sognefjorden will be strung in period of 2024-2027. Aurland 1 substation is an important hub for transmission grid in the region and is jointly owned by Statnett and Hafslund E-CO. Renewal of Aurland 1 substation is a prerequisite for the commissioning of the 420 kV transmission power line between Aurland-Sogndal. Existing powerlines and spans over the fjords will be removed and recycled when new grid is in operation. Project is planned to finalize work in 2028.
Upgrade of the Aurland-Sogndal transmission connection will contribute to better capacity between Trøndelag and Western Norway.
